Elon Musk Sues OpenAI and Sam Altman over Microsoft links

Elon Musk is currently in a legal fight with OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT. He has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, pointing out a breach of their nonprofit agreement. His lawsuit alleges that OpenAI has strayed from its original mission and violated the principles set forth when he co-founded the organization in 2015.

Background:
With an ambitious goal, OpenAI founded itself to create artificial general intelligence (AGI) capable of performing any human task. Initially, it operated as a non-profit, prioritizing the advancement of AGI for humanity’s benefit over financial interests.
The Lawsuit:
Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla, along with co-founders Sam Altman and also Greg Brockman, laid the foundation for OpenAI.

So, The lawsuit contends that OpenAI has veered away from its original mission. Focused on maximizing profits for its major investor, Microsoft, instead of prioritizing the betterment of humanity.
Mr. Musk seeks to compel OpenAI to adhere to its founding agreement and recommit to AGI development for the greater good. However, OpenAI declined to comment on the lawsuit
Recent Developments:
In November 2023, boardroom drama unfolded at OpenAI. Sam Altman, the organization’s leader, was abruptly removed from the board but later reinstated.
The board accused Altman of inconsistent communication, leading to a loss of confidence in his leadership.
Microsoft, a significant investor in OpenAI, was deeply involved in this dispute, even offering jobs to any OpenAI staff who chose to leave.
Microsoft’s Influence:
The lawsuit highlights Microsoft’s increased influence over OpenAI.
OpenAI has made its technology, including GPT-4, closed-source, primarily serving Microsoft’s proprietary commercial interests.
Microsoft’s substantial investment in OpenAI began in 2019 and expanded into a multi-year, multi-billion partnership after the launch of OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT.
Regulators in the UK, EU, and US are scrutinizing this partnership.
