iPhone 17 and 17 Plus to get 120Hz displays with Always-on next year

Apple, known for its high-end displays, has been criticized for keeping its smoother 120Hz refresh rate “ProMotion” technology exclusive to its Pro iPhones. This has been a point of contention for some users who prefer the more affordable standard models.

According to recent reports, Apple may finally be bridging the gap between its phone lines. The iPhone 17 and 17 Plus are rumored to receive the same LTPO OLED panels currently found in the Pro models. These panels enable both the 120Hz refresh rate and the ability to lower the refresh rate down to 1Hz, which allows for an always-on display feature.

However, the production of these panels relies on BOE, a Chinese company that recently submitted samples to Apple. While approval could be swift, BOE reportedly needs to ramp up production to meet Apple’s high standards. This suggests the iPhone 17 series might be the more realistic target for these features, rather than the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup.
