Lossless fast cutting in seconds

Quick answer: To trim a video free, add it below, use the preview to find your cut points, enter start and end times, and click Fast trim. Fast mode copies the video stream without re-encoding – a 100 MB file trims in seconds with zero quality loss (cuts snap to the nearest keyframe).

Most “online video cutters” re-encode your whole clip on their servers: upload, queue, quality loss, watermark. This trimmer uses FFmpeg's stream-copy mode in your browser – it literally copies the bytes between your two cut points into a new file. That's why it is nearly instant and mathematically lossless.

The one honest caveat of lossless cutting: cuts snap to the video's nearest keyframe, so your start point may shift by up to a couple of seconds. For frame-exact cuts, the Precise trim option re-encodes just like desktop editors do – slower, but accurate to the frame.

How to trim or cut a video

  1. Add a video; the preview player appears.
  2. Play/scrub to find your moment; use Set start/Set end to grab the current time, or type times manually.
  3. Click Fast trim (instant, lossless, keyframe-snapped) or Precise trim (frame-exact, re-encoded).
  4. Preview the result and download.

Why use the GadgetsFocus video trimmer?

  • Lossless fast mode: trims 100 MB in seconds with zero quality change.
  • Precise mode for frame-exact cuts when it matters.
  • Grab cut points straight from the video preview.
  • Private: the clip never leaves your device.
  • Accepts MP4, MOV, WebM – output is a universal MP4/WebM.

Honest limitations

  • Fast mode snaps to keyframes – your cut may start up to ~2 s earlier than requested (that's the physics of lossless cutting).
  • Precise mode re-encodes, so it takes roughly the clip's duration and applies slight compression.
  • Browser memory limits practical files to a few hundred MB.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't my fast trim start exactly where I set it?

Video can only be cut losslessly at keyframes (roughly every 1–2 seconds). Fast mode picks the nearest keyframe before your start time so no frames are corrupted. Use Precise trim when the exact frame matters.

Does trimming reduce quality?

Fast trim: zero loss – the video data is copied untouched. Precise trim re-encodes at high quality (CRF 20), which is visually indistinguishable for one generation.

Can I cut the middle out of a video (keep two parts)?

Run the tool twice – once for each part you want to keep – then join them with a desktop editor. A built-in splice feature is on our roadmap.

What formats can I trim?

Anything FFmpeg reads: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and more. Fast-mode output keeps the original codec; precise mode outputs H.264 MP4.

Is the video uploaded?

No – processing is local. That's also why it's so fast: there is no upload time at all.
