Is it legal to unlock a PDF?

I forgot my PDF password. Can this recover it?

Why is my unlocked bank statement no longer selectable text?
Open-password files are decrypted for display and then rebuilt page-by-page as crisp images, which is the only fully in-browser method. Restriction-only files keep their real text because they are just re-saved.
Is my password sent to your server?
Never. Decryption happens via pdf.js inside your browser tab. You can load this page, go offline, and it still unlocks files.
