Part of that consolidation is the permanent shutdown of the localized OnePlus Community sites for those regions. For long-time fans who spent years writing ROM flashing guides, uploading camera samples, and helping other users troubleshoot, this means a decade of tech history is about to vanish.
Why is OnePlus Deleting the Community Forums?
Following their withdrawal from US retail and carrier partnerships earlier this year, maintaining localized, high-traffic forum servers in regions where they no longer sell devices became an unjustifiable expense for the brand. The global community (based out of India and China) remains unaffected, but user accounts tied to the NA/EU regions cannot simply be merged due to differing privacy and data retention laws (like GDPR). Therefore, the only legally compliant solution for OnePlus is a complete purge of the regional servers.
How to Export Your OnePlus Community Data
If you want to preserve your posts, PMs, and uploaded media, you cannot just right-click and save everything. You need to initiate a formal data takeout request:
1. Log into your OnePlus Account: Go to the main OnePlus portal on a desktop browser.
2. Navigate to Privacy & Legal: Click on your profile icon in the top right, go to Account Settings, and find the Data Management tab.
3. Request Archive: Click ‘Download My Data’. You will need to verify your identity via a 2FA email code.
4. Select ‘Community Data’: Ensure the checkbox for ‘Community Activity’ is selected.
5. Wait for the Email: OnePlus states it can take up to 72 hours to compile the ZIP file, meaning you should not wait until August 15th to do this.
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
There is no grace period. At 11:59 PM EST on August 16th, the server instances will be spun down and securely wiped. Any links to older OnePlus community threads scattered across XDA, Reddit, and other tech blogs will permanently break (returning 404 errors).
