To fix the “Moisture Detected” error on your Samsung or Android phone, immediately unplug the charger, gently tap the phone against your hand with the port facing down to dislodge water, and leave it in a well-ventilated area for 1 to 2 hours. Do not use rice, heat guns, or compressed air, as these will damage the port’s internal pins.
Why Are You Seeing This Error?
Modern Android smartphones, particularly Samsung Galaxy devices, feature a moisture detection sensor inside the USB-C charging port. When this sensor detects an electrical short caused by water, sweat, or even high humidity, it disables wired charging via a software lockout to prevent the motherboard from frying. This is a safety feature, not a glitch.
How to Safely Remove Water from the Port
Follow these safe, manufacturer-approved steps to clear the sensor:
- The Gravity Tap: Hold your phone firmly with the USB-C port facing downward. Gently tap the top of the phone against the palm of your other hand to force out trapped water droplets.
- The Fan Method: Prop the phone up so the port is exposed to a fan blowing cool, room-temperature air directly across (not into) the port.
- Use Our Speaker Test Tool: Often, water trapped in the bottom speaker grill can seep back toward the charging port sensor. Use our free Speaker Test Tool to play high-frequency sounds and physically vibrate the remaining water out of the bottom chassis.
What NOT To Do
- Never use rice: Rice does not dry electronics faster than open air, and the starch and dust can permanently clog the USB-C pins.
- Never use a hair dryer: Heat will melt the waterproof adhesive seals inside your phone.
- Never use cotton swabs: You will bend the delicate pins inside the port, requiring a full motherboard replacement.
How to Charge Your Phone While Waiting
If your phone is dying and you absolutely must charge it while the port is drying, use a Qi wireless charger. The moisture sensor only disables the physical USB-C port. Wireless charging bypasses the port entirely and is 100% safe to use while the error message is active.
Clearing the Android Cache (If the Error is Stuck)
If the port is bone dry but the error won’t go away, the software flag might be stuck. You can clear this by going to Settings > Apps > Filter (Show System Apps) > USBSettings > Storage and tapping Clear Cache. Restart your phone afterward.
