YouTube Tests AI Remix Feature for Creators: Customize Tracks with New ‘Restyle a Track’ Option

YouTube has introduced an exciting feature that allows select creators to remix tracks using AI. This builds on the Dream Track toolset released last year, which enables users to generate AI-generated songs with prompts featuring vocals from artists like Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Sia, T-Pain, and Troye Sivan.

Now, YouTube is expanding its capabilities by allowing creators to “Restyle a track” through a new feature in the Dream Track tool. This feature lets creators input a description of how they’d like the song’s style changed, generating a 30-second snippet perfect for sharing on YouTube Shorts. Whether it’s altering the genre or mood of the track, creators can enter their vision, and the AI will adjust the music while keeping the original vocals intact.

These remixed tracks are credited to the original song and include a special label to indicate the remix was created using AI technology. YouTube’s AI tools rely on the Lyria music generation model, developed by DeepMind, and are part of the company’s efforts to collaborate with the music industry and compensate artists for using their work.

This new tool comes after YouTube’s agreement with Universal Music Group (UMG) to ensure that artists and rights holders are fairly compensated for their contributions.

YouTube AI remix feature YouTube’s initiative follows a growing trend in the music industry, with other companies, such as Gaurav Sharma’s Hook app, offering similar remixing capabilities for short video creation.
