Google’s New Gemini AI Image Generator Now Available in Google Docs

Google is rolling out an advanced image creation tool, “Create Image,” powered by Gemini AI, to Google Docs. This feature, currently available for Google Workspace and Google One AI Premium users, lets users generate custom images right within their documents, providing an intuitive solution for enhancing visual appeal in written content.

Similar to Microsoft’s AI-driven clipart tools, Google Gemini AI image generator appears as a panel on the right side of the Google Docs interface. By entering prompts, users can create AI-generated visuals tailored to specific document needs. The feature offers various image aspect ratios—including square, horizontal, and vertical—ideal for fitting seamlessly into different layout structures. Additionally, users can generate full-cover images that span across pageless document layouts, giving documents a more engaging and modern design.

The Gemini AI image generator’s functionality allows users to personalize images with different styles. To get started, users can select “Help me create an image” under the Image option within the Insert menu. They then input their preferred prompt, click “Add a style” to fine-tune the appearance, and choose “Create.” The Gemini tool will generate multiple image suggestions, from which users can select one to insert directly into their document. Image management is simple, with options to replace, reposition, add alt text, and delete images.

Currently, this feature is available exclusively on desktop for those with Gemini-supported Google Workspace accounts—specifically Enterprise, Business, Education, and Education Premium users—or for personal users through the Google One AI Premium add-on. It’s also accessible through early access in Google Workspace Labs, allowing early adopters to explore AI-assisted features and provide feedback to Google. Feedback is encouraged, as it helps Google improve the tool’s accuracy and adaptability.

Backed by Google’s Imagen 3 generator, the Gemini image creation tool boasts improved detailing, more realistic lighting, and fewer distracting elements. This cutting-edge functionality highlights Google’s ongoing commitment to enhancing productivity tools through AI innovation, enabling users to bring their ideas to life with customized, Google Gemini AI image generator.
