OnePlus Warranty & Updates After the US Exit: What is Guaranteed?

Verdict: If you purchased a OnePlus device before the August 2026 market exit, the company is legally obligated to honor all existing hardware warranties and promised OTA software updates. However, out-of-warranty repairs will become significantly more expensive and slower due to shuttered local repair centers.

The sudden exit of OnePlus from the North American and European markets has left millions of current device owners in a state of panic. What happens if your OnePlus 12 screen cracks? What happens to the promised four years of Android updates? We dug into the consumer protection laws and official company statements to clarify exactly what you are guaranteed.

Software Updates: You Are Covered

When you purchase a smartphone, the advertised software update lifespan is considered part of the legally binding sales contract.
– If you purchased a OnePlus 12 or OnePlus Open, you are still guaranteed four major Android OS upgrades and five years of security patches.
– OnePlus will continue to develop OxygenOS globally (as it remains active in India and Asia), meaning US and EU users will simply receive the global OTA packages.

However, there is a catch: Because OnePlus no longer has dedicated engineering teams testing software against specific US and UK carrier bands (like Verizon or EE), you may experience slightly more network instability after future updates.

Hardware Warranties: Slower, but Valid

If your OnePlus device suffers a manufacturer defect within its 1-year (US) or 2-year (EU) warranty period, OnePlus must repair or replace it.
The Bad News: OnePlus has closed its local authorized repair centers. You will now be required to ship your device internationally to an overarching BBK Electronics (Oppo/Vivo) regional hub.
The Reality: What used to be a 5-day turnaround for a warranty repair will now take 3 to 4 weeks.

Out-of-Warranty Repairs: Prepare to Pay

If you drop your phone and shatter the screen, you are largely on your own. Independent repair shops (like uBreakiFix) will no longer receive official OEM parts shipments from OnePlus. To fix a broken screen, repair shops will have to import parts from Asia, significantly driving up the cost of the repair. In many cases, fixing a broken screen on a two-year-old OnePlus device will now cost more than the phone’s resale value.

The OnePlus Community Shutdown

As a reminder, the official North American OnePlus Community forums will be permanently deleted on August 16. If you have posted tutorials, photos, or data there that you wish to keep, you must manually save them before the servers are wiped.
